Breaks in the series:

1 January 1992: From here ISTAT counts from the 1991 census; earlier values come from an older reconstruction.
1 January 2002: From here ISTAT counts from the 2001 census; the years up to 2001 are reconstructed separately. The census of 21 October splits 2001, so there is no yearly balance for 2001.
1 January 2019: From 2019 ISTAT bases the figures on the annual (permanent) census, before that on a reconstruction between the 2001 and 2011 censuses.

The values for 1982–1991 come from an older ISTAT reconstruction. Compared with the censuses: 1981 census: 33,711, reconstruction on 1 January 1982: 34,316; reconstruction on 1 January 1991: 34,031, 1991 census: 33,504. We show the values as ISTAT publishes them; we found no explanation for the differences in its notes.

1951: From here the values come from ISTAT's database. The earlier ones are transcribed from a printed ISTAT volume of 1994, which gives every census on the municipal boundaries of 1991. There was no census in 1941.
